OUR HISTORY
Waldron Street Christian Church has a long history.
Our heritage goes back to Acts 2 where the Church Started. Jesus said in Matthew 16:13-16 that he would build His Church on the fact that "Jesus is the Christ the Son of the Living God." After His life, death, burial and resurrection that church started on Pentecost in Acts 2.
WSCC is trying to restore that church in faith and practice. So as Acts 2:42 says, "we are committed to the teachings of scripture, communion, prayer and fellowship."
Our particular story started on July 1, 1858. The land on the corner of Taylor and Waldron Street was deeded to us to begin this ministry. A two story building was built there where the ministry began and carried on until the building was destroyed during the Civil War. (For any Civil War buffs, the basement still exists and is pre-civil war.)
In 1868 The Building was replaced with a one-story frame structure that stood as the church ministered for the next 45 years. In 1912 a two story brick building was built that still exists today. (A Hispanic ministry, Mt. Sinai Iglesias uses that space for ministry today.)
In 1988 the church bought some of the neighborhoods buildings and expanded its ministry with an education building. Then in 2010 the church moved out of those facilities and built a multipurpose facility on the east end of its property. The church meets in that facility for worship and all other activities today. It feels blessed with this facility and ministers to the community by allowing its facility to be used for multiple community activities like Pickers on the Square, Veterans Day Programs, National Day of Prayer, Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast and more.

History of the Christian Church
The Christian Church is part of the fellowship known historically as “The Restoration Movement.” The Restoration Movement, also known as the “Stone-Campbell Movement,” emerged out of the American frontier during the nation’s Second Great Awakening (1790-1870). Disillusioned by the devsiveness of denominationalism over correct doctrine and the assertion of established traditions over scriptural authority, Alexander Campbell and Barton Stone led a movement of returning to doctrine that is clearly expressed in the Bible and to emulate the practices of the first Christians in the New Testament church. The heart of the movement is reflected in this statement: “In essentials unity, in opinions liberty, and in all things love.”
Known simply as “Christians” we believe in the deity and the Lordship of Christ, the inspiration of the scriptures, and the autonomy of the local congregation. Thus, we are free in Christ; free from ecclesiastical ties; free to seek to be the type of congregation of believers patterned after the New Testament and free to cooperate with a worldwide fellowship of such churches.
We find the Church in the New Testament had certain things which characterized it. Among those were: baptism by immersion and the weekly observance of the Lord’s Supper. In striving to be Biblical, we adhere to these.
We seek the unity of all believers on the basis of faith in Christ as the divine Son of God and the acceptance of the New Testament as the all-sufficient rule of faith and practice.
